High performance synthetic slings for Free-Standing Risers
SWOS was contracted by TechnipFMC in 2016 to construct high performance synthetic slings for the purpose of tethering buoyancy cans to Free-Standing Risers (FSR). The FSR system was designed to operate in water depths up to 10,000 ft. The synthetic slings were required to have a minimum breaking strength of ~2,000 metric tonnes (~4.5 million pounds) and work with existing hardware resulting in a very low D/d. The subsea application for the slings was unique and came with a number of stringent requirements. SWOS also performed the in-house engineering required for this project. Because of it’s extremely low stretch properties, high strength and wear resistance, SWOS concluded high performance AmSteel®-Blue slings would be best suited for the purpose.
